We are pleased to announce an exciting new sponsorship by Cartoon Network. As a major cable network, Cartoon Network’s reach will help give Kids in the Kitchen added exposure, new interactive web materials, a televised public service announcement and other key resources. Cartoon Network has already instituted a successful Rescuing Recess program as part of their Get Animated initiative, which promotes fun and healthy active play for children. Now they will add healthy eating through the partnership with Junior Leagues’ Kids in the Kitchen.
By combining strengths, we can take the Kids in the Kitchen program to new heights. We look forward to effectively furthering Cartoon Network’s and AJLI’s shared goal to address childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles for children in communities across four countries. We will keep you updated as this exciting sponsorship progresses. We gratefully acknowledge the Junior League of Atlanta for introducing Cartoon Network to AJLI.
New Recipe Contest!
Kids in the Kitchen partner, Healthy Kids Challenge, would like to announce two recipe contest opportunities and encourage you to incorporate these into your activities and media efforts.
For several years now, HKC has co-sponsored a recipe contest with Johnson and Wales University called the Healthy Heritage Recipe Contest. This year, the contest is renamed Kids C.A.N. Recipe Contest. The contest is for youth currently in the 7th or 8th grade. The student can work with a classroom teacher on the project, or, with a youth leader through a community program, or enlist family help at home to develop an original recipe. Winners will receive small kitchen equipment (valued at $500), a cookbook, HKC T-shirt and a subscription to Cooking Light. All the contest rules, the downloadable entry form, deadlines, and prize listings are given on the HKC web site, and can be accessed from the HKC homepage, or at the following link http://www.healthykidschallenge.com/tweencontest.php. Remember, the entry deadline is March 24, 2007 and winners will be announced in April.
New this year is the "Healthy Kids Can Cook Recipe Contest", brought to you by AstraZeneca, in partnership with Healthy Kids Challenge. AstraZeneca and HKC are working together to educate families about identifying and managing acid reflux disease, commonly known as GERD. Through this partnership, and as part of their campaign, AstraZeneca has launched a website www.healthykidz.com which provides information about GERD, including tips for creating GERD-friendly meals. The Recipe Contest is a way for kids and teens, ages 12-17 to get involved and excited about healthy cooking of GERD-friendly recipes. By submitting a GERD-friendly recipe, participants can win a trip to Chef Douglas Rodriguez’s famous Philadelphia restaurant, Alma de Cuba, where they will enjoy a gourmet, GERD-friendly meal. Additional contest information can be found at www.healthykidz.com or on the HKC website at www.healthykidschallenge.com/hkcc.php. Entry deadline is March 16, 2007.
